Concentration exercises

Numbers 1–20

  • Aim: concentration exercises
  • Group size: 3–25
  • Time: 5 >
  • Supplies: none

Instructions

  1. The group stands in a circle. The facilitator explains that the idea is to count from 1 to 20 together so that one person says one number in turn, but without deciding in what order. If two or more participants speak out at the same time, the game starts from the beginning.
  2. Variation: Participants close their eyes while playing the game.

Wink Murder

  • Category:  Concentration exercises
  • Group size: 6–25
  • Time: 10–20  minutes
  • Supplies: Two coins of different value. Open space and enough room to form a circle.

Instructions

  1.  The group stands in a circle. The participants put their hand together and wait for the facilitator to introduce a coin… or not. Two coins are given out, one representing the murderer and the other one the police officer.
  2. The game begins when the facilitator has gone around. The aim of the game is to catch the murderer red handed winking at the victims. The whole group must remain quiet. The victims only die (and sit on the floor) 10 seconds after they have been winked at. The police officer has to catch the murderer winking at someone. If the police officer wins, then the murderer is given a letter (to form a funny word like ´donkey´). The more you lose, the closer you get to end the word. If the murderer wins then the police officer gets the letter. For the murderer to win all victims must have died.
  3. Next rounds: the murderer can make an accomplice if the group is large. This is done by the murderer sticking out his/her tongue at someone they trust to be a good partner in crime!

The Marshmallow Challenge

  • Category:  Concentration exercises
  • Group size: 4–50
  • Time: 10–15 minutes
  • Supplies: For the fasilitator a timing device, per group: 20 Spaghetti , 1m of tape , 1m of yarn, 1 standard marshmallow , a pair of scissors

Instructions

  1. The group is divided into smaller groups of 5-6 participants. They form a team. The facilitator gives all groups their set of supplies.
  2. The fasilitator tells the rules: Each team has 18 minutes to work together and build a freestanding structure, the marshmallow placed on top. The winning team will have the tallest tower standing unassisted. Teams may only use the materials provided, they may not use any other materials to assist in the support of your tower. They  will have only 18 minutes, and the Marshmallow must be on the top of the tower when time is called and the tower must be standing unassisted.
  3. Ready-Set-Go!
